The silent patient book review5/30/2023 ![]() All I can offer is my opinion, for what it’s worth. And you might well accuse me of being biased. ![]() Her talent will always be overshadowed by her notoriety, so it’s hard to be objective. I don’t know enough about art to say whether Alicia Berenson will stand the test of time as a painter. It has none of the visceral quality of Alicia’s best work. I find his stuff rather slick and shallow, to be honest. Since his death, the price of his photographs has increased astronomically. He had a distinctive style, shooting semi-starved, semi-naked women in strange, unflattering angles. ![]() They were both artists-Alicia was a painter, and Gabriel was a well-known fashion photographer. ALICIA BERENSON WAS THIRTY-THREE YEARS OLD when she killed her husband. ![]()

Natalie haynes a thousand ships review5/30/2023 ![]() Though one stands out more than the rest, women played a huge part in the Trojan war. Why not listen to it as I was working? Hearing the plight of all those women might make me feel better about my dull job. Plus, it just happened to be available on my library app. I guess it also helped that I’ve already refamiliarised myself with the events of the Trojan War thanks to Stephen Fry. Natalie Haynes is one of the most celebrated, so I felt that it was only fair that I give this book a chance. ![]() Publishers are relishing the resurgence of mythology and it feels like every week we get a feminist rewriting of one of the most famous myths. Thankfully there are so many recent books that I can read. ![]() I hadn’t meant for this to happen but I’ve just found myself in a bit of a cycle that I’m not intent on breaking. 2023 is turning out to be the year of Greek myths and their different retellings. ![]()
